Events

On the GCAMP Calendar of Events you will find:

  • Career/Job Fairs – These are hiring events, often held in anticipation of an upcoming high school or community college graduation, meant to help graduating students find jobs.   Manufacturers - find your next employees here!
  • Career Expos - (also sometimes called Showcases or Trades Fairs) These events are slightly different from job fairs.   They are geared towards younger students to encourage them to pursue a career in industry.   The students at these events are not seeking jobs yet, but they are looking for information about possibly pursuing careers in industry.   Manufacturers are invited to these events to introduce the next generation to the field of manufacturing. 
  • Mock Interviews -These events are for students to learn interviewing skills.  Industry professionals are needed to help conduct the mock interviews, and employers sometimes find potential real-life hires at mock interviews.
  • Advisory Meetings – These meetings allow industry experts an opportunity to give their input on how educators can refine their programs for current trends and technology.  These are great events to connect industry with education.
  • Competition Judge Requests – Student skills competitions are great ways for members of industry to meet skilled students and educators.  Plus, they are often a fun way for those in industry to volunteer their time and give back to the community. 
  • Awards & Scholarships - Awards refer to contests or competitions for people, frequently students, in manufacturing.  Scholarships on our page are for students to help fund their education beyond high school.   See the scholarship descriptions for more details.

Waubonsie Valley High School Career Connections Program

Dear Career Connections Supporter, Waubonsie Valley High School would like to cordially invite you to participate in our Career Connections Program designed to help students explore future career and educational choices.  Our Career Fair is back this year and we could not be more excited for our students to participate in this great event. Our Career Fair will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2023.  This day serves as a wonderful opportunity for our students to gain insights regarding potential careers and the preparation necessary to pursue their post-secondary plans.  Professionals are invite to host a booth in our field house where students will rotate through during our five lunch periods from 9:18-1:33.  All freshmen will attend the fair the first half of each lunch period, and upperclassmen will have the opportunity to participate throughout all lunch periods or by attending the fair with a class.  Continental Breakfast, starting at 8:30 am, and boxed lunches are provided to all fair attendees.  You may visit our website at https://sites.google.com/ipsd.org/wvhscareerconnections/home to view program details and register for the event.  We truly feel that your real world experiences will help motivate students to continue exploring the vast opportunities they have available upon completion of their education at Waubonsie Valley High School. Career Motive-8

In partnership with area businesses, on Friday, October 20 Naperville 203 will host an 8th Grade Career Exploration Day to motive-8 students to continue career exploration and planning. The event, called Career Motive-8, will provide students with an opportunity to connect with area businesses from multiple career pathways. We need your help! Career Motive-8 is going to be an exciting and authentic way to engage your employees with our Naperville 203 community. Would your business be willing to host a table at the event and share your careers with our students? The event will be held Friday, October 20, 2023 at Naperville Yard (1601 Legacy Cir, Naperville, IL 60563). Morning Session: 8:45 - 11:00 AM & Afternoon Session: 11:45 - 2:00 PM. There is set-up time on Thursday, October 19 the evening before the event.  This event will have a trade show feel with a hands on component for our students. NBT Scholarship Now Open for Spring 2024

Nuts, Bolts & Thingamajigs (NBT) provides scholarships up to $3,500 for students pursuing degrees that will lead to manufacturing careers.    Deadline to apply for the Spring 2024 scholarship is Sept 30, 2023.

New Partners Needed for Work-Based Learning (WBL) Advisory Board

Industry partners are needed for the District 300 Work-Based Learning Advisory Board.    The WBL Advisory Board is a board dedicated to growing and expanding our Work-Based Learning and career exploration opportunities for students in our D300 community in a mutually beneficial and on-going partnership. The board meets three times a year and will rotate between the different high schools in order to provide tours with the option of employers hosting when willing. The meeting has an optional portion from 5:30 to 6 PM that is intended for new or interested industry partners. At 6 PM, we will tour the high school to see their Career and Technical Education labs. From 6:30 to 7:15 PM will be updates from the District as well as an employer and student experience shared out. Food will be provided to attendees at this portion of the meeting.
