Events

On the GCAMP Calendar of Events you will find:

  • Career/Job Fairs – These are hiring events, often held in anticipation of an upcoming high school or community college graduation, meant to help graduating students find jobs.   Manufacturers - find your next employees here!
  • Career Expos - (also sometimes called Showcases or Trades Fairs) These events are slightly different from job fairs.   They are geared towards younger students to encourage them to pursue a career in industry.   The students at these events are not seeking jobs yet, but they are looking for information about possibly pursuing careers in industry.   Manufacturers are invited to these events to introduce the next generation to the field of manufacturing. 
  • Mock Interviews -These events are for students to learn interviewing skills.  Industry professionals are needed to help conduct the mock interviews, and employers sometimes find potential real-life hires at mock interviews.
  • Advisory Meetings – These meetings allow industry experts an opportunity to give their input on how educators can refine their programs for current trends and technology.  These are great events to connect industry with education.
  • Competition Judge Requests – Student skills competitions are great ways for members of industry to meet skilled students and educators.  Plus, they are often a fun way for those in industry to volunteer their time and give back to the community. 
  • Awards & Scholarships - Awards refer to contests or competitions for people, frequently students, in manufacturing.  Scholarships on our page are for students to help fund their education beyond high school.   See the scholarship descriptions for more details.

Peter Schwartz Memorial Manufacturing Scholarship

Peter Schwartz Memorial Manufacturing Scholarship Administered by: St. Charles Area Chamber of Commerce Industrial Committee Purpose: The purpose of this scholarship is to support D303 graduates who will pursue their education and training post high school that relates to careers in the manufacturing space. Award: This scholarship provides a one-time award of $1,000 payable directly to the college or university of the selected applicant’s choice. The award can be used to apply towards tuition, book fees, or materials directly related to the student’s course of study.   The St. Charles Area Chamber’s Industrial Committee will be sponsoring a Manufacturing Scholarship in honor of its past Chair, Peter Schwartz. Peter passed away after a battle with cancer. He was president and CEO of Streng Advertising Agency, and a valued member of the chamber and of his community. This scholarship awards one student from Compass Academy, East HS, and North HS a $1,000 scholarship to pursue postsecondary education or training in programs related to CTE. The application and supporting documents must be submitted no later than April 7th of the scholarship year via email to: b.carter@tekpak.com with “Peter Schwartz Scholarship” in the subject line.

Rotary Club of Elgin Vocational Scholarship

2023 CTE / VOCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM Scholarship grants in the amount of $1,500 each will be awarded to support students who are preparing to further themselves in a chosen vocation. Students who are entering career and technical education programs (CTE), at community colleges, technical training institutions, or vocational training programs may apply for financial scholarship awards. These awards may be applied to costs associated with tuition, books, tools, and supplies that are associated with specific CTE programs. Applicants must be sponsored by, and work with, local Rotary Clubs, who will be able to submit up to two applicants each year for consideration. Application package must include the following:  One complete online application form.  Two letters of reference addressing the applicant’s readiness to successfully pursue the proposed CTE training program (examples: from a high school teacher, counselor, principal, employer, or someone from your community).  Transcripts from your high school or college.  Your CTE / Vocational Scholarship Application Rating Form signed by your sponsoring Rotary Club.  Your CTE / Vocational Scholarship Interview Rating Form signed by your sponsoring Rotary Club. Complete applications must be supported by sponsoring District 6440 Rotary Clubs and sent to the Rotary District 6440 CTE / Vocational Scholarship Committee by March 25th,2023.
