Summer 2026 Internships - Smith and Richardson

Job Description

Smith and Richardson internships are a great way to dive into the real-world applications of STEM fields. Interns complete a two-week introduction/shadowing experience while rotating through the quality, production, and engineering departments. All interns begin their training in the quality department where parts are inspected. This exposure helps teach interns about the precision manufactured parts that are produced at S&R and the quality that is expected in our products. At the conclusion of the internship program, we hope that you have a stronger understanding of manufacturing and how our company functions.

Age requirement: 16+ 

Hours: M-F, 7am-3pm. 

Interns will gain experience in: 

Quality: Interns will learn how to check tolerances on parts using various gages and vision systems while performing in process inspections. 

Production: Interns will be out on the production floor, shadowing machine operators and performing basic tasks. They will become familiar with the maintenance and operation of several machines. 

Engineering: Interns will gain hands on experience using programs such as Solid works, AutoCAD, and Esprit; learn about part quoting; and shadow engineering creating programs for the CNC machines. 

Special Projects: After gaining experience in each department, interns will be assigned to various custom projects based on the department needs that will allow for applying gained knowledge in real life manufacturing challenges.
