Job Type: Student Worker (Full-Time/Part-Time, Temporary)

Position Summary:

This role will gain practical, hands-on experience in metal forming and manufacturing of conveyor belt components by shadowing skilled machine operators and learning core production processes. This internship offers exposure to spot-welding, bending, cutting, assembly, and inspection activities. Safety and quality are a priority in all tasks, with interns gradually transitioning into operating fabrication machinery under supervision.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Exposure to the end-to-end process of metal forming, including cutting, forming, Spot-welding, and assembly in a manufacturing environment.
  • Development of a strong foundation in shop safety, quality assurance, and industrial discipline.
  • Enhance confidence and competency while working with tools, gauges, and shop floor systems.

Job Duties

  • Shadow experienced operators on various production and non-production equipment such as press saws, and spot-welding stations to learn safe operating procedures and techniques.
  • Assist in material handling and setup for jobs involving fabricated metal components used in conveyor systems.
  • Learn and apply OSHA-compliant safety protocols, including PPE use, equipment lockout/tagout, and hazard identification.
  • Support quality control processes by measuring parts using calipers, micrometers, and other gauges to ensure conformance with drawings and tolerances.
  • Participate in basic manufacturing activities such as deburring and cleaning parts as part of the production flow.
  • Help maintain organized workstations and follow 5S principles to promote efficiency and cleanliness.
  • Receive guidance on reading and interpreting technical drawings and work instructions.
  • Progress toward operating selected machines under direct supervision, following all safety and quality standards.

Experience Required

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a program in Manufacturing Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related field.
• Demonstrated interest in fabrication, mechanical assembly, or industrial manufacturing.
• Able to read, or willing to learn, how to interpret blueprints and shop drawings.
• Basic mechanical aptitude with the ability to safely handle tools and materials.
• Dependable with strong attention to detail and a team-oriented attitude.
• Must be able to stand, lift, and move throughout an 8-hour shift and follow all safety guidelines.

Additional Information

  • This is a paid internship with flexible scheduling options between the hours of 6am and 2pm to accommodate school requirements. 
  • All safety training and PPE will be provided by the company.
  • Successful interns may be considered for full-time employment or extended learning opportunities.
