Apprenticeships have become an answer to many manufacturing companies struggling to fill positions. Most apprentices commit to an employer for three to five years. Long-term this results in on-the-job-training coupled with some classroom related instruction.
Local apprenticeship programs are housed at many of our local community colleges. Additionally, trade associations like TMA, as well as the German American Chamber of Commerce serve to support the success of these programs . We encourage manufacturers to partner these types of organizations to train and develop young adults.
If your company is considering taking on an apprentice – the time to act is now! Effective January 1, 2020, the State of Illinois is offering employers a tax credit of up to $3,500 per apprentice for educational expenses. Funds are limited to $5 million; this offer is available on a first come, first served basis.
